Docker has launched a commercial platform called Docker Enterprise Editions (EE), which is available on certified operating systems and cloud providers and runs certified Containers and Plugins from Docker Store. It's available in three tiers. The free Docker products are being renamed Docker Community Edition (CE).

The Basic tier comes with the Docker platform, support and certification. It includes a container runtime, orchestration tools, security and management features. The Standard version adds multi-tenancy support with advanced image and container management and secure hooks into data centers. The Advanced versions adds to all of that security scanning and vulnerability monitoring.

The company said that Docker Enterprise Edition is certified for CentOS Distribution. Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, Oracle Linux and Windows Server, as well as cloud providers AWS and Azure.

Docker CE comes in two versions. Edge is for those who want a drop of the latest and greatest features each month. The Stable version is released quarterly and is for those that want an easy-to-maintain release pace. It is released quarterly.
